To clarify further, those who are claiming these ear tones to be earthquake related must show that they ARE NOT otoacoustic emissions. Otherwise the answer is ambiguous. If there are two possible explanations, the only way to settle the issue is to eliminate one or the other - either by overwhelming evidence in support of one, or definitive evidence eliminating the other. This is basic scientific methodology. Since the evidence for quake related ear tones is tenuous at best (anecdotal), the only way to get any traction would be to eliminate otoacoustic emission as a possibility since there is already significant and extant evidence.
