I have a theory that one of the basic laws of the universe states that even with a spell checker, you cannot post a note to a bulletin board or circulate one by E-mail that does not contain at least one spelling error. If your note contained only the letter “A” then it would appear in the post as “B.” So, there were several glaring ones such as “hear” instead of “here” in the first post in this thread.

There was one section of the wording that should probably be corrected.

With the “ratcheting” mechanism that has been proposed to explain tectonic plate movement, the original post here stated that this causes tectonic plates to grow in size relative to the ocean surface. I believe that it should have stated that the parts of the plates that are above the water (continents) and perhaps some parts of the plates down in the ocean grow in size relative to the total ocean surface size. I believe that the two dimensional surface area of all of the tectonic plates combined could not increase or decrease unless the Earth itself were to expand or contract in size.
