Very true. Weren't there some sort of slow slip events discovered recently? Maybe there's some interplay with this.

I am not convinced that quakes are NOT predictable, but I will say we certainly don't have anywhere near enough information about what happens 'down there' to say what's going on, much less predict what may happen.

Anyway, I took a gander over at the Parkfield creepmeters just now. Of course some show the 4.5 quake. But I also see some changes back on the 1st, but no quake that I am aware of. Signs and portents? It should be possible to look for significant changes in the data prior to quakes and see if there is a pattern before hand. I briefly thought about taking on the challenge, but the effort would likely garner little interest. Besides, it may have already been done numerous times by folks much better at this than I.
