Gulf of Cal vs. SOCAL |
Hi Roger, how about as far back as you think the catalogue is complete for M4+ quakes in southern California and for M5+ quakes in Baja and Gulf of California. Plot any quake M5+ in Gulf of California or Baja with some color scheme giving the latitude. Plot number of M4+ quakes by day in southern California south of 34 deg N, for 20 days afterwards. Then try M6+ quakes for GOC and M5+ quakes SOCAL, but out 30 days. If not too complicated, a color scheme for the SOCAL latitudes would help also. Just have some rainbow color scheme from 24 N to 34 N changing ever 1 deg? This should prove whether Canie's hypothesis is plausible or imagination. We know the big El Major quake which was mostly in Baja triggered slip on other faults in southern California.
