Comment – April 9, 2012 |
This is being posted here as the thread already exists. What is being discussed in this post has to be one of the mysteries of science. This is a recent report in the Scientific American blog discussing the L’Aquila Earthquake. Some of the information in the report, such as the comments about government official corruption, is to a certain degree in agreement with my own opinions regarding why earthquakes continue to do so much damage. But I feel that the report also contains some of the usual geology specialist self-serving propaganda regarding whether or not earthquakes can be predicted. The mystery is that there is at the time of this posting a single response posted to the blog. And that response is from someone who used to post notes to this EarthWaves board. The were frequently critical of my own posts. And I believe that someone who is one of her colleagues who also used to post notes here immediately attacks any Earthquake Warnings etc. that I post to the sci.geo.earthquakes Newsgroup. What is so mysterious to me is that almost everything in her blog response appears to me to be in fairly good agreement with the comments that I frequently post here regarding why earthquakes are not being accurately predicted. This is difficult to understand. How can people agree with you in notes posted to one public forum and then launch attacks against you regarding the same subject matter in other public forums? Science doesn’t work that way. People need to be consistent with their opinions and behavior if they want the international scientific community to take anything that they say seriously. When there are strong contradictions like that, all of a person’s comments are likely to be ignored. These are personal opinions.
