O/T: a Missouri day

O/T=Off Topic

HD and I will probably bike 15 miles to a little campground and picnic area on the Missouri River, and meet HW, who will drive there. There is a little cement block building with soda and ice cream and chips, until you start opening refrigerators where the beer is hiding. There is a camper/trailer at the end of the building that in season is a Thai restaurant considered to be good. If you ask inside, they are liable to be selling BBQ (but the only way to know is to ask). Outside on the weekend, there is liable to be a musician who is 200 years old and only 6" wide, with a beard 3 feet long, who plays 3 string instruments and sings surprisingly well. Or, there could be appallingly bad music and a big crowd and a belly-dancing school. I took a conservative, religious Turkish earth science student there; it was quite the cross cultural experience. Every year there is a period where it is closed because the Missouri River floods, some years 4 times. I go once or twice a year to watch the ice floes whisper by, coming down the river fast from 2 km or more upriver where the next big bend is, but there was no ice this year on the river. I've also arrived there 3 times on my big 3 person, 1 bicycle canoe. Otherwise, the cross-Missouri Katy trail (bike trail) goes right by, with connectors right close to our house.

It is a 5 minute walk to "Boathenge" (link)
