Hi Chris Def. something up at this point. Unless in the past they were only anomalies, every stronger bay area quake was proceeded by an uptick of quakes likes this for several years. The past 20 years since 89 has been relatively quiet and now since 2010 the region seems to be waking up. When I get a chance I'll run a catalog search (I Know I said on this board I'd do it six months ago lol) and put them in an excel sheet, (MAYBE things are normal-I don't think) and show there is increase. It was the area south of today's quake that had the robust swarm last year. This area of the Hayward fault has had mag 4 quakes in the past, maybe once every 5 years, so its not like its an unheard of spot in bay area to have one but again it goes back to the timing where now its falling into a correlation of broader increased activity on the fault and region.
