Hi Don:

You've been dredging up some good info.

ref:
"We expect that the moment release due to the afterslip and relaxation effectively reduce the earthquake hazard locally. It is not clear from this study how the postseismic deformation loads the surrounding faults or alters the state of stress on those faults.”"

+ Maybe so but there seem to be many rule violators in this category it seems....

+ Regarding the waves... What attenuates the wave energy ? If the waves last for years wouldn't that suggest that the wave damping mechanism is pretty weak...and that maybe many fault lines would be "tested" for breaking over time (an would break relatively contiuously) ? The record EQ records suggests clumping or clustering of quakes and even in intensity levels of clusters maybe....

So maybe the waves attenuate quickly...there are just more of them...but maybe they arise in groups / clusters themselves....

Now let's see...what kind of energy source could possibly provide such waves....

Just thinking out loud Don....

Seems like you've been studying quakes for awhile...have you written any books yet? Just curious...
