Re: two major errors

Penny,

It is necessary to look at the larger picture here and take into account the types of earthquake forecasting information that groups such as disaster mitigation personnel need to have available.

Disaster mitigation groups are not interested in knowing if there is going to be a 5 magnitude earthquake somewhere on the planet at some future date.

On the other hand, they are very interested in knowing if there is going to be an 8 magnitude earthquake somewhere on the planet during the next week. And initially they don’t even need to know where it will occur.

With that information they could assume that they might need to respond to the earthquake and start getting their gear together and locating response personnel who could be off on vacation etc. Then when the earthquake occurred they would have perhaps a two or three day head start with their response efforts. Some of those groups can take as much as two weeks to get all of their equipment and personnel organized after a major earthquake occurs.

And whereas it might be a little difficult to tell when a 5 magnitude earthquake is going to occur in some area, my data clearly indicate to me that something like an 8 magnitude earthquake can and often does generate quite a few warning signals during the weeks before it occurs. And if people monitoring those warning signals let the disaster mitigation groups know that an especially powerful were on the way then they could save some response time. And that time would be saved even if the forecasters could not tell where the global EM Signals, for example, might be pointing.

Something that I keep telling Roger, with humor intended, is that during his next reincarnation he should not attempt to return as a disaster mitigation professional.

I am also going to propose that unless you and certain other scientists can get past that “Only forecasts that include time, location, and magnitude information are of any use” basic law of the universe concept, then with your own next reincarnations you might also want to select careers that are not related to disaster mitigation.

These are personal opinions.
