Note To Canie RE: Multiple EarthWaves Bulletin Boards – January 14, 2012 |
Note To Canie RE: Multiple EarthWaves Bulletin Boards – January 14, 2012 In another note I stated that there could be some major advantages to having two EarthWaves bulletin boards. This is a short discussion of that subject. First of all, this is not a request. I am just outlining what could be possible. The “other” EarthWaves board could be devoted to discussions regarding technology subjects related to earthquakes etc. such as how to create the computer program that Roger and I are working on. Actual earthquake forecasting and earthquake triggering research and earthquake predictions would not be discussed there, only the technology related to computer and Web site programs etc. The reason a second board would be needed for that is because there are so many endless arguments in this board. For example, A while ago I posted a note about my proposed disaster mitigation computer program. http://www.earthwaves.org/wwwboard/messages/79307.html That was completely technology oriented. But someone still felt the need to post a response note that in my opinion interfered with the effort. What happens with bulletin boards such as this one is that if there is just one person who is posting negative comments, it makes the board useless for almost everyone else. So, negative comments would not be allowed on that proposed new board. At first, only Roger and I (and you if you wished) would be discussing computer and Web site programs. Other board posters could be added with time. It is my intention to get a formal bulletin board like that one running at my own Web site as soon as time permits. I have been modifying the original Matt Wright program that you yourself are using to run the EarthWaves board. The Xampp.exe CGI program emulator is being used to help with that. It takes a while to learn how to use Xampp and get its directory structure organized. But it can really help accelerate CGI program development efforts. Those types of effort take time. And I presently have two major reports that need to get finalized as quickly as possible and sent to U.S. policy makers. Plus, I would need to find some people who could serve as board monitors. I wouldn’t have time myself to both develop these research projects and also read every note and make sure that people were behaving themselves. This was supposed to happen in connection with the International Society for Earthquake Precursors http://www.isfep.com. But one of the foudation's members threw a "hissy fit." He did not want any earthquake forecasting efforts at all discussed on a public bulletion board by anyone. And the effort fell apart. Again, this note is not a request. I simply discussed why a second bulletin board is needed, regardless of what its name is and where it is located.
