Thanks Canie! Yes, I read the articles in the Redding Paper. I've also read Stephen Harris book (Fire Mountains of the West) about the Cascades, and it is great. I do wonder as I look out my window at this big volcano looming to the east. Five generations of my family have lived and died here--so I keep wondering if I am in the generation that will see the mountain blow. My son and grandson make that down to seven generations here, so who knows?

There are so many volcanic features around here. Places where the ground is still warm, other cones besides Shasta. And, lest we forget, the big Medicine Lake Volcano awaits. Can't decide sometimes if I might (just might) even stay around to watch Shasta blow if it does in my lifetime. I'm getting old and starting to understand poor old Harry Truman at Spirit Lake! But on the whole, if the quakes start going and rumbling, I'm packing the computer, the dog, the husband and departing ASAP!!

Just looked out the window at Shasta...alpen glow and silence.
