Just for your general interest since you are going to a conference where you will be talking with people.

I am expecting that this week or next there could be a rather significant shift in one important part of the U.S. government’s interest in the science of earthquake forecasting. And once that gets underway, other governments will undoubtedly start to get involved.

Unfortunately, this is one of these topics that I can’t presently discuss in detail. At the moment I don’t think there are too many people in the U.S. who actually know about this subject matter. And I am fairly sure that they would not want me to say too much about it. However, if U.S. officials do say anything related to it in the public news and I learn about that then I will try to let people know about that.

There is also an interesting and I feel important book being published that takes a detailed look at why tectonic plates move relative to one another. And the primary theory the book proposes for that is one that I have never seen discussed anywhere else. However, I believe that this theory (fairly complex) was probably proposed by someone, somewhere at least once over the ages.

If I understood the main author’s recent communication correctly, copies of the book have already been formally printed though it is not yet available to the general public.

If you wish you can try contacting me by E-mail for more information regarding the book. I don’t want to discuss that information on the EarthWaves site just yet. There are too many hostile people presently posting notes here in my opinion.

And finally, there is yet another interesting and important earthquake forecasting project getting underway that I helped get started. And also unfortunately, I can’t say too much about it until it is fully operational.

European and Asian area versions of the project are already running. If all goes according to plan the U.S. version that I helped with should get running some time in the Spring of 2012.
