The quake showed on radar. Not what you think: bug and birds took off due to shaking and showed in radar (link). Well, it was dark so they probably are only assuming that. I assume dust does not show as well on radar. Northridge aftershocks in 1994 (and I'm sure the main shock) very quickly had dust clouds, which must be from dry landslides.
