Hi again Chris,

One of the major problems with earthquake forecasting is the fact that the forecasters generally get started by going off on their own instead of comparing notes with other people.

Then they generate some forecasts that are either useless or cause problems for the general public or both.

So, whenever I learn about someone who is starting to generate forecasts I will usually try to contact him or her and recommend that they check with other forecasters before they attempt to warn everyone on the planet that an earthquake is about to end all human life.

That approach appears to be helpful. Quite often the original forecasters don’t know that there are others who are involved with this type of work. Or they just don’t know enough about the Internet to be able to locate other forecasters.

Finally, I had no idea that this researcher existed. Two other people contacted me and asked me for an opinion regarding his forecasts. So, I generated an opinion and went a step further by actually contacting him. And he did respond to my note and was pleasant about it. But I don’t think he would want me to discuss the subject matter in public.

Drive safely everyone. We don't need to have any more ghosts lurking around this bulletin board.
