Earlier I had tested a small sample of EQF's signals and found that most of them were associated with a mag 7+ quake within 8 days.

This was a very significant result and I pressed him strongly for a more complete test.

But he refused on several odd grounds.

Finally today he explained that the sample was from known quake cases, selected to aid researchers in using his program.

So he was not guilty of cherry picking the data for my test. He just gave me data intended for another purpose. I should have known better.

He also mentioned that he gets several samples per day, so my alarm clock example was quite appropriate. The trick is in deciding which signals are quake related and that still needs a lot of work.
