Roger,

Its is really a waste of time to try to argue with you or actually discuss just about anything as by the time the next day arrives you have gone back to what you believed several days earlier.

However, as this subject matter is quite important I will briefly discuss this again.

The gravitational pulls of the sun and the moon combined with the rotation of the Earth cause the surface of the Earth to experience a “tide” that is usually referred to as something like the Solid Earth Tide.

It you could measure the strain levels within the rock layers in fault zones at different times in the day you would find that the rock layers are being bent and pulled in different directions normally around 4 times a day. And if a fault zone is getting ready to fracture anyway, that small amount of strain can be just enough to push the fault zone over the edge and cause an earthquake to occur.

It probably starts with a small fracture somewhere in the fault zone and then rapidly expands to the full earthquake.

My data associated with some earthquakes and their aftershocks and also EM Signal indicate to me that this process can be accurate to within a few minutes of time. So, the forces that triggered the original earthquake might be duplicated a month later and cause an aftershock to occur when additional strain has collected somewhere in the fault zone. And that aftershock occurs in a fairly narrow time window considering that an entire month has now elapsed.

So, gravity by itself probably doesn’t trigger an earthquake. It is the bending of the crust etc. that results from the gravity that does the triggering. Ocean tides might also be important for some earthquakes.

I have no idea what the true ratio might be, Solid Earth Tide Related Triggering versus Ocean Tide Triggering. But in my probability equations I give the Tide Generating Force that is related to the Solid Earth Tide a higher weight or importance than Ocean Tide forces just based on rough evaluations of my data over the years.
