I have an extensive amount of experience with patent, copyright, and trademark law. I have also over the years given away for free to governments etc. around the world more life saving and economy strengthening technology for absolutely free than you could probably even imagine. Earthquake forecasting is just one of dozens of projects I am working on or have worked on over the years.

In my opinion, when it comes to technology that is critical to saving lives it is often better to simply share the technology with people with few or no restrictions. A formal copyright simply provides concrete proof that you developed or knew about that technology at a specific point in time. And it represents an official document with wording that only one person can claim to be the author of.

Though they might not have any strong patent value, copyrights can be useful as references in publications etc. when you wish to show that you were actually the first person to develop some idea.
