Re: M7.1 reverse aftershock near Honshu coast |
I think I tend to recognize patterns, and maybe even where there are none. You would not expect a M6.5 to trigger a M7.1 at that distance. The 7.1 is an aftershock and the stresses are changing in a big way on the Japan subduction zone from the main shock and other aftershocks, a probably fluid flow and creep and who knows what. So, scientifically, there should be no link between Mexico 6.5 and Japan 7.1 But, it seems to me that there tend to be clusters of M6+ quakes at very large distances. But, Roger checked it, and there was nothing statistical. But, we may want to look at this again. I posted that there were M6+ quakes in 6 different areas in the 4 or 5 days before the M9. I also posted that I though there would be more than usual M6+ global quakes in the week after the M9 at large distances, and this did not happen (I was wrong) Follow Ups: ● Re: M7.1 reverse aftershock near Honshu coast - Tony 08:07:22 - 4/8/2011 (78576) (1) ● Nothing statistical. - Heartland chris 09:30:42 - 4/8/2011 (78578) (1) ● Re: Nothing statistical. - Roger Hunter 12:59:00 - 4/8/2011 (78584) (1) ● Re: Nothing statistical. - heartland chris 06:44:35 - 4/9/2011 (78588) (1) ● Re: Nothing statistical. - Roger Hunter 07:48:51 - 4/9/2011 (78592) (0) |
