True that I don't know much about what is going on in China for prediction efforts after the 1970s, where I do know something about it. But, you are not exactly educating me with your posts, which don't contain much useful information on this. If there were foreshocks, and they were small enough that they did not bother people much, and if there are few instruments, which seems likely, sure, animals might have acted oddly. But, see John's comment which nails it.
