I read this article yesterday - someone was asking about them saying that there wa subduction going on in the Salton Sea area - The article didn't quite say that, but did bring up the prospect that some think there are bits of the Pacific plate subducting under the North American plate along the borders - kinda of like a propeller blade.. Seems an interesting hypothesis..

It should be interesting to see their results.
