Re: Kaku on Letterman show |
I am getting the distinct impression that Kaku is anti-nuclear. Apparently he was critical of NASA's use of radioisotope thermoelectric generators for the Cassini space probe. (uhmmm, and how else was it going to be powered? Energizer Bunnies?) Kaku's academic career has focused on string theory, which is fine, but doesn't make him a nuclear expert. Nor an earthquake expert. Heck, I apparently know more than he does because some of the interviews I've seen of him talking about the Japan Quake have had me doing the palm-face maneuver. This is a striking example of the logical fallacy known as "appeal to authority." Just because someone is an expert in one thing does not mean you can assume they are expert on anything else. In this case, I think Kaku is proving that fallacy right. Most disappointing. Science can sure use a good public face. People made fun of Sagan, but at least he got his facts straight. (btw, Sagan never said "billions and billions") Brian Follow Ups: ● Re: Kaku on Letterman show - Skywise 20:57:20 - 3/23/2011 (78474) (1) ● Kaku, and half life plutonium - heartland chris 06:34:47 - 3/25/2011 (78485) (0) |
