Quakes "disappear" for several reasons, chiefly that they weren't real in the first place. Computers have their limits, after all....

The 7.2 is in the main catalog, upgraded to a 7.3 but in any case you should allow a month or more for things to settle down. In any case, the NEIC catalog is not complete for global events below mag 4.5.
