Re: Earthquake Forecasting Update – March 19, 2011 |
First of all, today is Sunday and I am not planning to get into any more arguments about this today. There are more important things to do. Monday is a good day for arguments as many people are in a grumpy mood anyway. Second, If there are actually any people visiting this bulletin board who are interested in learning if earthquakes can be forecast or interested in actually participating in constructive efforts to get programs running for developing forecasting programs then I recommend that you ignore the other responses posted here except the one from Chris. I work on humanitarian projects all the time. And I have found that usually, the main thing holding back progress is one or more Special Interest Groups that keep throwing roadblocks in the way. And that is just what those other posts are. Demanding that people use certain writing styles or provide every bit of available information or else you will criticize them etc. are just Special Interest Group roadblocks. They have nothing to do with the subject matter and just slow progress. If people are not making every bit of data available and say they have a good reason for doing that then it is necessary to just go along with them. I have been interested for years in how Shan does his sun shadow calculations. But he is apparently only releasing that information to people who are actually planning to try to duplicate his efforts. And I don’t have time to do that myself. But that still does not keep me from recommending that other people try to see if they can get his forecasting method to work themselves. That new bulletin board I am developing is a resource that is specifically intended to help science researchers around the world get past these and other types of Special Interest Group roadblocks. Copies of that board should enable the researchers to communicate freely without being constantly attacked or intimidated. It would already be fully operational. But, I have been having trouble getting the software to run reliably on my PC. There is probably something going on with the PC server software program that runs the bulletin board. And I haven’t been able to determine what it is. The program keeps making errors when it tries to generate thread messages past a certain level. The board program Canie has running here doesn’t appear to have that problem.
