Since this is the area where the strike-slip of the San Andreas changes into the spreading ridge in the Gulf of California and on to the East Pacific Rise, I wonder if the cross fault action isn't somewhat analogous the transform faults across the major ridges of the worlds oceans. I also wonder what the next segment to fail will be. There has been much talk of the southern San Andreas being ripe, but I find myself more concerned with the Elsinore fault, of which the Salada appears to be an extension, and where much of the stress from the El Mayor quake seems to have gone. http://geology.usgs.gov/postdoc/2012/opps/opp20.html Figure 3 shows an increase of more than 1 bar on the south end of the Elsinore and a decrease of more than 1 bar on the South San Jacinto and Brawly Zone. http://supersites.earthobservations.org/baja.php Includes a similar figure at the end, but also many SAR images and GPS displacement maps.
