My new bulletin board was created largely so that various subjects could be discussed on the board without all of the arguments that are found in many other bulletin boards (including EarthWaves at times).

Those types of heated discussions frequently reach the point of personal and professional criticism. And they cause many people to get so frightened about having unfriendly or hostile things said about them or their work or so frightened about having their professional careers and work suffer some type of damage that they won’t post their own notes to the bulletin board. They might even get so upset that they won’t visit the boards.

Even though my new bulletin board is not yet even accepting posts from other people and has not yet been advertised in the Newsgroups or in widely circulated E-mail notes I am already starting to hear from people including earthquake researchers who have never contacted me in the past. So, I am taking that as a sign of success.

However, that new board is not intended to replace either of the EarthWaves boards that are more conversation oriented rather than strictly research oriented boards.
