An Observation For Disaster Mitigation Workers

The following is some information for people who are considering choosing a career in the disaster mitigation field.

One of the most difficult parts is the fact that you will likely eventually be forced to make some tough choices. And no matter what choice you make of the available options, lives will likely still be lost.

For example,

With my own forecasting work I can choose to spend available time and resources generating and circulating actual forecasts. Or I can spend that time developing forecasting program technology that other people can use.

For the past month or so I have been developing the technology and not trying to generate any forecasts. The logic is that if other people have that technology available to them then eventually, more lives would be saved than I could save myself.

EM Signals are still being recorded. But it has been a while since I ran my forecasting program software. As advanced as it is it still requires quite a bit of time and effort to run.

I was hoping that the deadly earthquakes would take a vacation while that effort is underway. But that New Zealand earthquake demonstrates once again that our planet waits for no man or woman.
