Hmmm...boy do I remember the poison oak and manzanita. And the rattlesnakes and sunburn. As for Field Stories--I guess the most vivid one I have is the day I nearly bought it on a talus slop near Mount Rose! I was with Dr. Wise and crossing the blasted slope when it began to move. And we were having thunder and lightning, and I decided that I NEVER wanted to do field work again as I sat in the car later. Wow, Dr. Wise was a wizard in the field...he taught me to walk on branches ABOVE a water soaked bog. I also remember a day with Tom Dibblee and Helmut Ehrenspeck (bless his soul), when we talked about conglomerates with no quartz... I'm getting old. I was never good enough to work with Art Sylvester, alas, in his research work! Snow today, and we're glad to see it here! Has been a very dry winter so far. One of the locals told me about a spot nearby where steam has been reported (wouldn't surprise me here) and I'm hoping to drag my old bones out there to look at it! Currently, I work with the Sisson Museum here, mainly showing kids the difference between pahoehoe, aa and pumice! But I love it.
