really fast computers for M8 simulation

I think some of you computer types will enjoy reading abou the speed and number of processors used for the M8 ground motion simulation; see link.

If it is true that some group said there is only a 2% chance of a M8 quake in southern California in the next 30 years, then this is misleading: there is probably a far higher chance of something in the high 7s.
