One of the most important messages in the Earthquake Warnings and Advisories that I am circulating is the following: EM Signals were detected that indicate that a significant earthquake is approaching. So, other forecasters around the world should examine their own data to see if any of them are pointing to the approach of a significant earthquake. And disaster mitigation personnel around the world should watch for a few days to see if a significant earthquake that they will need to respond to is going to occur. My warnings and advisories themselves might not contain enough information to actually tell where an earthquake is going to occur. Instead, one of their main goals is as I said, to tell other researchers that, “Now is the time you should be checking your data.” Quite often, earthquake researchers are not able to determine that the data that they are detecting at a given time are actually significant. If you go back in time you will see that I posted an advisory here on January 11, 2010. It was intended to say to other researchers, "Now is the time that you need to check your data." The next day an earthquake in Haiti reportedly claimed hundereds of thousands of lives. Other researchers have been sending me information in response to this latest warning. And appropriate data are usually discussed here. However, in some cases the other researchers request that their data remain confidential.
