It's called MNS - Me Now Syndrome.

So many people go through their lives thinking only of themselves. Some may say they care, even about family and friends, yet when you observe them closely they have no clue the consequences of their actions - not only for those close to them, but for others around them. And when you try to explain to them, they just get pissed off.

Too few think past their nose.

I am a big fan of Battlestar Galactica, and in the re-imagined series a question is often asked, does humanity deserve to survive? Makes me wonder.
