Probability Calculations June 29, 2010

Hi Amit Dave

Once again,

Based on what I have seen regarding how your forecasting program works, what your program appears to be doing is listing time windows where there is a higher probability of an earthquake occurring if a fault zone is getting ready to fracture anyway. Those high probability time windows are based on factors related to the gravitational pulls of the sun and the moon.

It is my opinion that that is in fact valuable information if the calculations are done correctly. And I intend to eventually merge those type of data with my own forecasting program. However those data do not really indicate that an earthquake is about to occur, only that one that is going to occur anyway is more likely to occur during that high probabiltiy time window.

My data and those or other researchers indicate to me that those calculations are highly dependent on fault zone location and environmental factors such as the type of fault zone involving tectonic plates that are pressing against one another, sliding sideways past one another, or moving away from one another.
