Re: Proposed EAR TONEs tests

Hi Mary:

Yes...it is a laughable sight to behold...definitely "certifiable" material....

I think tones lasting up to 60 seconds might be "testable" as I had mentioned.

I've checked your web-site and find that you are making a good start. Something you may wish to add is your precise location at the time (latitude/longitude in hrs:mins:arcsecs if possible) and possibly the orientation of your head (via compass azimuth). Perhaps a directional resonance of some type is happening and it recedes if you re-orient your head. Also, you may wish to doublecheck your watch against the correct time if it becomes a critical issue in any analysis (though +/- a few minutes seems "accurate" enough).

I think you made a good start in trying to tell others exactly what you hearing and how long it lasts. Matching to a certified correct tone generator may allow better comparisons possibly from person to person.

With regards to the portable detector the evidence indicates that a long wavelength phenonema may be a stimlus here (or is that "hear":). These are possibly wavelengths in the 100,000s of miles range...thus a portable detector may not be feasible. Having said that, it is possible that an AM radio tuned to static may actually make unusual sounds as a precursor...however the "certifiable" part comes into play again as your neighbors wonder why you are tuned to a "static" station instead of music, etc. (also this static may likely only be heard for "nearby" quakes perhaps...)

I have a suspicion that a long term period of data gathering and correlation testing in this area may be fruitful. The question seems to be for many...why bother? ...since nobody's paying them, etc. So the folks like yourself who are stepping forward to keep records are doing a "good thing" I believe. Your web-site is a good idea.

Have you thought about letting others posting their recorded data there as well?

Anyway, you may wish to go to www.elfrad.com (I think) to locate the nearest ULF detector to your location. You may wish to check it after you hear a good tone to see if there is any corresponding ULF activity also being detected around the same time (not necessarily at the same time). This could be a key revelation of sorts....

Here's to looking silly,

mark
