Forecast Web Page Format Update May 14, 2010 |
FORECAST WEB PAGE FORMAT UPDATE The Earthquake Forecasting Data.html Web page has just had a major format update. (Polite) comments regarding the data and format are welcome in response to this posting. I believe that with repeated checks I found all of the text, formatting, and URL link errors that seem to always appear on a new or reformatted Web page. But if any were missed then I would be interested in hearing about that. That Web page’s purpose is to provide earthquake forecasters, researchers, disaster mitigation personnel, government officials, and the general public around the world with some confirmation forecast data for their own forecasts or original forecast data if they do not have any of their own. It contains URL links to a number of other Web sites and Web pages of interest including my own newest Web site. Plans are to add additional links and displays to that Data.html Web page with time. For example, displays showing other forecasters’ data, Earth surface temperatures, and geomagnetic energy field strength will likely be added if I can find some good links for them. Something that I would say to other forecasters is that it is quite important that they present their forecast data on the Internet in such a manner that they are easy to find and interpret by individuals, groups, and governments etc. around the world. Regardless of the quality of those data, if people cannot quickly locate and decipher them or even understand them at all then the data are likely to be ignored. Over the years I myself have probably spent as much time just trying to develop effective formats for displaying forecast data as I have spent developing computer programs to generate them in the first place. Now that the latest major Data.html Web page format revision is completed, forecasting efforts will probably start getting back to actually generating and evaluating the forecast data. |
