There have been zero aftershocks as of the time I write this of this morning's 4.4 in LA. Having studied enough quakes (although I'm an amateur) I feel qualified enough to say this is...unusual. You would expect to see at least 4-7 1.0-2.0 mag quakes, MAYBE one 3. If not that, maybe a scattering of micros within 20 miles elsewhere in LA. This blue square stands all by its lonesome self with nothing. This reminds me of the 2 mag 5 quakes that proceeded Loma Prieta-one of them, also occured with zero aftershocks. I remember then scientists stating it was odd and theorizing that the fault zone may have shifted itself into a more locked position intensifying the seismic gap. As we know got the world series quake months later. Anyway, its worth noting.
