Haiti is an object lesson in so many ways. Communications are non-existant in the country. Each country sending aid has their own systems and chains of command. There need to be a central command to use these resources to their best advantage in the quickest way possible. The devistation is almost complete in a country that has no government looking after anyones welfare. How many rescue teams would it take to cover the entire city in a day and rescue everyone in a timly manner? The people may be use to disasters but not in preparing and coping with the aftermath. I would hazard a guess that there were few if any who had made any preparations for this eventuality, not to mention the fact that no economy means they have no disposable income to use for preparedness. Your right in wanting a faster and co-ordinated responce that can hit the ground running so to speak. Eternal preparedness is the price of survival. Sounds simple but people have to have a reason to actually do it and be prepared. I think this may be one of those reasons. When it is our turn to put all of our preparations to work in our own country, I hope we have sped up the responce. Until then, be prepared for 8 to 10 days at a minimum.
