I remember getting up around 3AM to take some aspirin---had a red wine headache that wouldn't quit!! It seemed only moments later that everything began to sway. Adrenaline rush! Hubby and I got out of bed when the shaking stopped. We had electricity for a few moments, then all went dark. I checked on son and dog---both still cozily in bed, looked rather calm, and went back to sleep.

Hubby went to check gas lines, etc. I went to the car to get some radio news---I still recall some dazed late night DJs asking their field reporters to call in. I remember noting that my headache was gone. I remember the stars---wow, all of those stars now visible without the usual light pollution...

We had no damage there (south of Santa Barbara), but I remember people going NUTS to fill up with gasoline when the power did go back on.

Since at that time I was a working geologist, and my husband an Electrical Wholesaler...we had NO radiio, NO batteries...wouldn't you know it!
