While I'm not a scientist (I'm a practicing part-time attorney and full-time documentary/commercial photographer), I'm quite privy to the politics of science. My brother, who just completed a PhD/MD at Penn, had quite a time with respect to both impediments to publication, stealing work and just general "fiefdom guarding" nastiness. Interestingly, it rarely gets that nasty in litigation.

On another brief note, I recently voir dired a chemical analyst who really wanted to get off the jury. It was fun though because I went through a whole juxtaposition of evidence and jury instructions versus hypothesis, variables and conclusions. In the course of voir dire it occurred to me that there just might be the possibility of logic to trying cases. I let her go from the jury, but I thik she would have been a great juror. My client was found not guilty. (In this case, he deserved to be.)

Anyway . . . end rant.
