Glen, One difference is that Compton is every couple thousand years, while San Andreas might add up to every 50 to 100 years if you add up the different quakes that could affect Los Angeles. Before the 3D ground motion modeling done in the mid 1990s and later, the relatively distant San Andreas was thought to be less of a problem for downtown and south and east of there, but now it is thought to be a major problem.

One question for which I don't know the answer except by logic is whether the San Andreas is mainly a problem for taller building while the Compton (and Puente Hills and other Metro faults) would give a harder jolt to houses and 2 or 3 story apartments. Logic would say that this was the case.

Happy New Year to all. HW is headed in from the East Pacific Rise to Costa Rica, HD is sleeping, HD and I saw Avatar yesterday and is well worth seeing. Has a story in additional to special effects. The story could be overdone for some and I usually see throught this, but was good for me; not too preachy. I noticed the "limp dick scientists" line.
