Interesting....I have question though, how does that explain the siesmic quiet we seem to see after larger CA quakes? It was 20 years ago yesterday Loma Prieta hit, and I remember at the time scientists coming out left and right saying this was just the warm up. That the bay area was on its way to a repeat of the 30 years that led up to 06, i.e. expect magnitude 6+ quakes every 2-5 years and dozens of 4s and 5s in the foreseeable future in between with strong possibility of another 7. Its 20 years later and not only was there never another damaging quake, but overall the bay area kinda seismically went back to sleep. Same w/ Northridge, there are papers all over the net that were written in the first 6 months of the quake by scientists saying this was the begining of annual magnitude 6 quakes in the LA area and monthly 5+ quakes. Again that never happened. It will be interesting to see what the revised statistics are and if they will place another 30 year window, or, use the existing 30 year and now make it like in next 20 years.
