As I have said on this board...I don't believe in coincidence where geology is concerned.

I'm very familiar with this region of California--owned a cabin up in the Sierra above Lone Pine, and mapped in Owens Valley many years ago. A wild and lively geologic area. The 1872 quake was a big one, fortunately very few people lived in the area then. You can still see a grave for some unfortunates outside of Lone Pine.

Some geologists suspect that the San Andreas system will eventually be somewhat replaced by a newer lineament going east of the Sierra...possibly through Death Valley.

Just hope that this wasn't a foreshock. A repeat of 1872 would possibly mess up the Owens Valley aquaduct system, which feeds LA a lot of water. (ps: Ever see "Chinatown"??)
