There was a talk at the SCEC meeting by DR Shelly; go to link and search by author. There was tremor near the base of the crust, and migration of this tremor in both directions along the fault. About 3 months before the quake the tremor migrated mainly NW to SE. Not enough to predict the quake, but something was going on.
