I too noticed the change, but I get my image differently. I actually created my own webpage that directly grabs ten different quake maps from various sources and puts them on one page.

When I went directly to the webpage it showed the new style map.

I have two thoughts on your differences:

First, are you sure the "old style" image is a current image? And not an old one dredged up by the browser's cache?

More like, though, take a close look at the URL you are going to on each system. Are they the same? I seem to recall that map being available on different sites. Perhaps only one is using the new style.
