An earthquake that size probably ruptured more than 100 km of fault, more likely 200; more if it had been steeper. It does not sound like a lot of damage in Queensland, the one listed large aftershock is to the SW, so I'll bet it ruptured to SW of epicenter. Also, there is a rather significant bend in the strike of the fault near the epicenter and the part to the south would be more "restraining" for right-lateral, thus thrust there is more likely.
