Highway 33 between Pine Mountain and Ojai is an engineering geologists nightmare (or dream?). Giant sandstone blocks on steep dip slopes above the road with nothing but friction holding them up. One wet winter the road was closed just north of Pine Mountain pass...we went camping up the little 1 lane road that heads south from the pass up towards Reyes (?) Peak...in May. We camped again a couple of months later and the road was still closed, and it looked worse...a bulldozer was up on the very steep side hill bringing large parts of loose mountain down.
