A professor who was at UCSB when I was a grad student there determined that there was indeed some magnetite in the human brain. This was Mike Fuller, who may be at Hawaii now. It's been a long time so I could be a bit off here. He ran the paleo-magnetic lab, and did paleomagnetic measurements in SE Asia/some of the island chains (with his grad students). Otherwise, of course I view most of that stuff in the link with high degree of skepticism or downright disbelief, except the mixed in a couple of legitimate things (Fraser-Smith ULF for example). Mike's link links below to making fault models with origami (with cut out paper). This may actually be a useful exercise for intro geology. Joann Stock cut out some paper for me because I was having trouble understanding a ridge-ridge-ridge triple junction. I probably need to cut that out myself. This probably involved the Adare Trough fossil spreading center north of western Ross Sea, Antarctica.
