Earthquake Forecasting Resources Sharing Question November 22, 2008 |
The goal of this posting is to get some comments from people who are experts regarding Internet usage. This is not intended to start a debate on whether or not earthquakes can be predicted. And I myself probably won’t make too many responses to any comments posted here. But I plan to read the responses and give them some consideration while I am getting an earthquake forecasting and research computer program ready for circulation. That program is fully operational. At the moment I am preparing a lengthy ReadMe file that contains detailed explanations for how to extract files from the original zip file, how to make adjustments to the shortcut file that starts the .exe program, and how to use the various graphics options etc. Some of the types of data that the program generates can be seen on the following Web page: http://www.freewebz.com/eq-forecasting/Data.html When people run the program on their own computers they should be able to do things such as enter the time that an Ear Tone was detected. And the program will generate those types of charts and maps based on that time. Some EarthWaves board users will probably want to store the charts and maps at a Web site and then discuss their data here. And they will want to include references to their Web site map files etc. Additionally, they might want to include references to other files such as Web site pictures of Earthquake Clouds and earth surface temperature maps. The goal of this posting is to see if any Internet experts would like to comment on simple and effective ways of doing that type of thing. Web location references can actually be included within notes posted here. But it is a little complicated. And I am not sure how many people would be able to do that. An almost ideal procedure would be to prepare the text of a posting for this board or some other board. And when you wanted to include a picture file in the text you would click on the address of that file in your own computer. When you hit the Send button your Internet browser or E-mail program would send the text along with a copy of the picture file or files. The picture files would then be stored on the bulletin board’s host Internet server. There are probably some Internet Bulletin Boards that let you submit an E-mail letter prepared in such a manner. But I am not aware of any earthquake boards where such an option is available. |
