Roger, not with a regular piston core, which you just position as close as you can ( a couple of meters horizontally) and drop it. It's a little more complicated than that because there is a trigger core that gets to the seafloor first and somehow makes the main core drop. The International Ocean Drilling Program can re-enter the same hole, but the probably have to put something on the sea floor to be able to do this. Not sure how they do this in the deep ocean (kms), but they do. Most of our cores this trip were only in 70 to 130 m of water.
