stuck on bottom |
The 2nd and last piston corer is still stuck on the bottom. They are trying to pull it out at slightly different angles. The don't want to exceed 20,000 psi (units?). Its been an hour or maybe 2. We could be here for a while. We've been working our way up here to long piston cores after a transect of gravity cores a night ago. We've shown that a climate record is preserved here, but other methods are likely needed to recover it. We (Nicholson et al) have a project well along in the system for the International Ocean drilling Program to go deep here. On the more positive note, the seismic reflection data acquired the last couple of days when it has been calm isvery good: imaged of gas amplitude anomalies and of small faults near the proposed drilling sites, which will make things a little tricky. I spent all day (again) trying to resolve the large discrepancy between the age of the old cores here and the interpretations that Courtney and I have done that these cores should have been much younger. It is hard to put in large faults into the interpretation that would allow it not to be "busted" Follow Ups: ● Back in port - heartland chris 16:54:11 - 11/20/2008 (74521) (1) ● Re: Back in port - Canie 12:14:13 - 11/22/2008 (74523) (0) |
