At the SCEC meeting it was suggested that SCEC researchers participate in Shakeout as a sort of drill for when a real devastating quake hits southern California. I'll be on a ship in Santa Barbara Channel. Whether I participate depends on whether I have any time and whether there is unlimited satellite internet. I guess the extent of my activities would be to post information here (on earthwaves). I don't think there is anything that I could do that would be directly useful during a quake unless it was on one of the faults that I have studied, or any offshore fault where I could easily download data (or where I already have data...data being mainly seismic reflection profiles (acoustic images of the sub-bottom).
