I meant I would never try to re-derive the correct answer myself unless there was serious disagreement.

In fact, if the scientists disagreed about something outside my specialty, it would be hubris to think I could adjudicate the argument by considering it myself. Atmospheric chemistry and global circulation and climate models are not child's play.

I think we're saying the same thing.
